Atlantic Salmon

A ray-finned fish with a remarkable life cycle, migrating between saltwater and freshwater for reproduction. Face numerous obstacles during migration and are threatened by overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change. Can spawn multiple times.

North Atlantic Ocean, rivers of North America (Canada, USA), Europe (Iceland, Norway, Russia, UK, Ireland, France)

4-8 years (up to 10-15 years)

Anadromous: live in saltwater, migrate to freshwater to reproduce. Eggs in gravel beds, alevins, fry, smolts, adults returning to spawn.

Rich, oily flavor, firm texture. Grilled, baked, poached, smoked, sushi, sashimi. Excellent source of Omega-3s, protein, Vitamin D. Look for sustainable sources (MSC).
