Lambfish Overview
Lambfish are relatively small, typically reaching a maximum length of around 30-40 cm (12-16 inches). They have a slender, elongated body with a yellowish-brown to greenish-brown coloration, and large eyes. The most distinguishing feature is the upturned mouth, resembling the mouth of a lamb. They lack a swim bladder.
Lambfish Habitat
Coastal waters, estuaries, lagoons, muddy or sandy bottoms, often associated with seagrass beds. Depths ranging from 1 to 40 meters (3-131 feet).

Little is known about the larval stage, but it is likely similar to other marine fish larvae. Spawning is believed to be broadcast spawning, with eggs and sperm released into the water. Sexual maturity occurs around 1-2 years of age.
Lambfish Taste and Consumption
Historically eaten locally in some coastal communities. Descriptions of the taste are varied—some find it mildly flavored, while others find it tough or muddy. High bone content. Current consumption is declining.
