Mandarin Fish

Mandarin fish are known for their striking coloration and patterns. They are carnivorous predators that feed on small invertebrates. Males can be territorial, especially during mating season. They are most active during the night.

Coral reefs of the western Pacific, typically between 3 to 15 meters depth.

Mandarin fish lay eggs at night on rocks or coral surfaces. Eggs hatch into larvae that drift in plankton before settling on the reef. Growth is relatively slow.

Technically edible, but not commonly consumed due to small size and population sensitivity. Reported flavor is delicate with a slightly sweet taste.
